For Children & Families
Who will partipcate?
If your school is sampled to participate in the survey, all year 4, 6 or 8 students (depending which year level your school was sampled for) will be invited to take part. Once appropriate informed consent is obtained from guardians and children, the students will be asked to respond to the survey during normal school hours and under the supervision of school staff.
What will participation in the ACWP survey involve?
The survey will be individually administered online, on a computer or tablet. The survey will be inclusive of all students and should anyone require special assistance in order to take part, your school may be provided with additional resources to facilitate this. It will take about 20-30 minutes to complete and there will be no strict test conditions. It will be possible to log in and out of the survey and to complete it when it is mutually convenient for both the student and the school.
Why participate?
Wellbeing of children in their middle years is important for their current quality of life, and for their future development. Little is known about Australian children’s wellbeing in their middle years, or how wellbeing varies among different groups of young people. If policies to promote young people’s wellbeing are to be implemented, then policymakers need to know how young people in general, and young people who experience high levels of disadvantage or marginalisation in particular, understand and evaluate their own wellbeing. The data collected from the survey instrument will provide this important information to policy makers, service providers, schools and researchers and in doing so, will contribute to the design of effective services for young people’s healthy development.
What if I have questions?
If you are a child, parent or carer with a question about any part of the project or would simply like to have a chat about what participating in the project would involve, the ACWP team would be very happy to speak with you. You can also review the For Schools page of this website.
